Remember the job advertised by the Australian Tourist Board a few months back, looking for a caretaker for their Hamilton Island, just off the Queensland coast? Where the employee would blog and report about their life in the sun, sand and sea for six months? Well, golf holiday firm Yourgolftravel.com are looking to recruit someone to travel the world and play golf.

There are however, some conditions that potential recruits must face. Firstly, they must have been made unemployed within the last twelve months, and while a corporate background would be desirable, it is not a necessity to apply. Secondly, applicants must play from a handicap of less than 14, which unfortunately rules the author of this post out of the reckoning. Applicants would also have to compete in a golf tournament as part of their application.

The job, which has a duration of one year will task the successful applicant with travelling the world, visiting golf courses, researching golf opportunities and writing reviews about their experiences. There’s also a competitive salary on offer, but no numbers have been quoted.

If you believe the job sounds too good to be true, Ross Marshall – one of the company’s founders – has sought to allay fears by telling The Times newspaper’s city correspondent, Martin Waller, that the job was indeed genuine and he hit upon the idea after several of his friends had struggled to find jobs after having been redundant themselves.

Quite how one applies for the role is unknown – the company, which specialises in golf breaks in the UK, Europe and around the world currently don’t have the vacancy listed on their recruitment page…
