BBC Scotland are reporting that a new airline is to step into the breach created by the collapse of Flyglobespan at Glasgow Airport.

Kiss Flights, which operates from eight UK airports are to offer twelve summer routes to the Mediterranean from April, including Spain, Greece and Turkey. The flights are to be operated on behalf of Kiss Flights by the Swedish carrier, Viking Airlines using Boeing 737 aircraft.

“Kiss Flights are enjoying a period of strong growth and we are delighted to be able to offer these flights from Glasgow.” Said Kiss Flights director Paul Moss. “Since the demise of Flyglobespan we have had unprecedented requests from the travel trade to offer increased capacity from Scotland.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “Kiss Flights has a great deal of past experience in the UK travel industry and they have made a significant commitment to Glasgow Airport this year, serving many of the destinations once served by the Globespan group.”

Flyglobespan collapsed in December 2009 after its parent company, Globespan, was put into administration. The group’s appointed card processor, E-Clear is currently embroiled in an investigation over claims it has withheld around £30 million from Globespan.
