If you are one of the thousands of holidaymakers who suffered as a result of the collapse of XL Leisure and have yet to claim compensation, you’d better get a move on, as you only have until this Friday to apply for recompense.

XL Leisure, which included subsidiary companies Travel City Direct, Freedom Flights and Kosmar Villa Holidays, went bust on September 12 last year, leaving some 85,000 holidaymakers stranded around the world with a further 200,000 being left in the lurch with advance bookings.

To date, the Civil Aviation Authority has received only 65,102 claims according to the Times online, with 55,324 cases having been settled. However, those figures show tens of thousands of people are still out of pocket.

Travel comparison website, travelsupermarket.com has highlighted the claims deadline and has offered advice to claimants on how to claim compensation.

“One year on from the collapse, £37.5million worth of claims have already been settled but countless customers have still not submitted their applications. We are urging anyone who was a victim of the collapse to do so before it’s too late,” said the website’s commercial head, Duncan Barraclough.
