Ireland’s Shannon Airport is to benefit from an increased presence from US airline Continental during the summer. The carrier will operate four additional services between the airport and Newark, New York each week.

The airline currently operates a daily service throughout the year to Newark, which serves as a hub and provides extensive connectivity to other parts of the United States. The additional services, which will run between 28th May and 8th September, will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with a departure time of 1315 hrs.

All Continental Airlines services will use the airports Full US pre-clearance facility ensuring speedy processing on arrival in the US.

Airport Director Martin Moroney said of the announcement:

“This is a significant boost for Shannon Airport and we are delighted to have this additional capacity in the transatlantic market this summer. In this challenging business environment Continental Airlines’ decision shows the continued appeal of Shannon and the West of Ireland for doing business”.
