New Pay-as-you visit lounge serves Ryanair’s Stanstead service

Ryanair’s new business lounge at Stanstead Airport will operate on a pay-as-you-visit basis. No.1 Lounges has announced the opening of a new No. 1 Lounge in the airport, which is situated in satellite three opposite Ryanair’s departure gates. Use of the lounge will set users back £17.50 per visit, although it will offer all the benefits of a VIP lounge including free wi-fi, bar, food court and newspapers and magazines.
It’s the second No.1 Lounge to open at the airport – the first was opened in September last year in satellite one. However, due to its location it wasn’t suitable for Ryanair passengers.
No.1 lounges can be booked online, in advance, for just £17.50 from www.No1Lounges.com

Holiday Inn employ human ‘hot-water bottles’

A hotel chain has come up with a new and novel way of ensuring their guests get a good night’s sleep.
Rather than supplying a hot-water bottle, or electric blanket to guests, Holiday Inn have taken the step of employing people to don special all-in-one sleeper suits and get under the bed covers to warm the bed for guests.
The idea of a warm bed is believed to aid better sleep as studies have suggested a warm bed is more condusive to a good night’s sleep than a cold bed says Dr Chris Idzikowsi, of Edinburgh Sleep Centre.
The five minute free bed warming sessions are being tried out in London and Manchester later this month.

Could BA re-examine Qantas merger?

The proposed merger between aviation heavyweights British Airways and Iberia has served to reignite the possibility of a tie-up with Australian carrier Qantas.
Willie Walsh, chief executive for British Way suggested in a Financial Times interview that the possibility of a tie-up with Qantas could be looked at again with a view to creating a merger similar to the BA-Iberia one.
Plans for a merger between BA and Qantas were quashed last year when take-over talks failed but the BA-Iberia merger, where both airlines retain their brand identities and home-bases could serve as a template on which any such future, similar mergers could be built.
“You could look again there” regarding an alliance with Qantas, Willie Walsh told the FT.
But with strong political opposition in Australia towards a BA/Qantas merger there are no plans to set the merger in stone but it could certainly be something that may well be discussed in the future.

Hotel announces discount incentive for amorous couples to conceive

Amorous couples visiting the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba could get more than they bargained for, according to the Telegraph online.
Management at the island’s Westin Resort are offering couples a $300 discount if they conceive a child during their holiday to the island in an effort to attract would-be mothers and fathers to the island.
Couples who conceive during their stay will be rewarded with the discount if they can prove that their baby was conceived during their holiday, with the offer open to guests staying at the hotel prior to December 18th, 2009. A doctor’s note confirming the likely conception date of the child coincides with the couple’s stay at the resort would be sufficient evidence to qualify for the discount said a resort spokesman.
Successful couples can claim the ‘conception credit’ towards the cost of at least one night’s complimentary accommodation; rooms at the resort start at around $200 per night.
